The PCB has announced a balanced 15-member squad for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Experienced player Mohammad Hafeez got a place in the squad but two former captains Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed have not been selected.
Two experienced stars Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah have returned to the World Cup squad that is going to be led by Babar Azam. They were called up to the World Cup squad due to their good performance in domestic cricket. Presumably, Mohammad Rizwan has been named as Pakistan’s wicketkeeper in the World Cup squad. However, Azam Khan, the son of the country’s legendary wicketkeeper Moin Khan, has been included in the squad as his backup wicketkeeper.
The 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League. He made his debut against England this year. He has played only three T20I matches so far and has been called up to the World Cup squad with the experience of playing only these three matches.
Despite having possibility, Sharjeel Khan, Fakhar Zaman, and all-rounder Faheem Ashraf did not get a place in the World Cup squad. However, left-arm opening batsman Fakhar will go to the UAE as a reserve player along with Usman Qadir and Shanawaz Dahan.
This 15-member Pakistan team will play a total of seven Twenty20 matches against England and New Zealand before the forthcoming World Cup. There are five batsmen, two wicketkeepers, four all-rounders, and four pacers in this squad. Besides, there are three more that are kept as reserves.
Pakistan will start the World Cup journey on October 24 playing their first match against arch-rivals India.
