Guyana asked the Knights to bat first in a CPL 2023 match between the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), on a field that offered some help to the bowlers. Mark Deyal, a consistent performer this season, got off to a strong start for TKR as they experimented with their bench strength by making multiple lineup changes and resting older players.

Tallawahs Keep Playoff Aspirations Alive with Dominant Win in CPL 2023
Jamaica Tallawahs secured a crucial 59-run victory over the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, keeping their hopes alive for a coveted spot in the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Playoffs.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, despite losing early wickets to the spin duo of Ashmead Nedd and George Linde, the Tallawahs rallied with a resilient 62-run partnership between Shamar Springer and Fabian Allen, amassing a formidable total of 178/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Despite a valiant 65-run effort by Yannic Cariah, the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots found themselves bowled out for 119, thanks to a brilliant spell by Mohammad Amir, who claimed four crucial wickets, ensuring the Tallawahs’ victory margin of 59 runs.
In the PowerPlay, the Jamaican franchise faced stern resistance from Sheldon Cottrell and Ashmead Nedd’s bowling, with the latter accounting for the dismissals of Brandon King and Kirk McKenzie. At the end of the PowerPlay, the Tallawahs were struggling at 31-2. Spinner George Linde then struck with two wickets in successive deliveries in the following over, pushing the Tallawahs into a crisis at 34-4.
However, Raymon Reifer, Shamar Springer, and Fabian Allen made significant contributions in the latter part of the innings, propelling the Tallawahs to score 72 runs from the final five overs, culminating in a total of 178/7. The Patriots’ over-rate concerns resulted in a red card for the final over, with Cariah leaving the field.
Amazon Warriors Secure Top Spot in Group Stage with Convincing Win in Caribbean Premier League 2023

In response, the Amazon Warriors executed a well-timed chase, with Shai Hope continuing his excellent form by contributing an unbeaten 54 runs, ensuring victory with 10 balls to spare.
Early in the match, the Knight Riders faced adversity as Martin Guptill was run out for just one run. However, Mark Deyal’s brisk 37 off 20 balls helped them reach a healthy 49/2 by the end of the PowerPlay.
Chadwick Walton and Keacy Carty then formed a crucial 59-run partnership before Imran Tahir dismissed Walton for 25. However, this set the stage for Carty to shift gears, as he unleashed a flurry of strokes, particularly targeting Odean Smith, amassing 26 runs in the 15th over to reach his well-deserved half-century.
