South Africa have named their 15-member squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup on Setpember 5. The Proteas will be led by Temba Bavuma in the impending ODI World Cup, which is set to be held in India from October 5.
Captain Temba Bavuma, Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Rassie van der Dussen are the specialist batters in the line-up while Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen are the two wicketkeeping options in the side with Tristan Stubbs missing out.
Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Sisanda Magala, Gerald Coetzee, and Marco Jansen are the six pacers included in the squad, while Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi will handle the spin-bowling department. The talented Dewald Brevis could not find a spot in the side. Lizaad Williams, who was the highest wicket-taker for South Africa in their most recent T20I series against Australia, also missed out.
South Africa are set to play a five-match ODI series at home against Australia. The first match is going to be played in Bloemfontein on Thursday, September 7. After this series, Temba Bavuma and Co. will play two warm-up matches against Afghanistan and South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram ahead of the ODI World Cup. In the showpiece event, they will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on October 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
South Africa have had some great World Cup squads over the years. However, they have not been able to win the coveted title. They will be looking to end the drought in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5 with a clash between defending champions England and New Zealand.
