The much-awaited mega clash between India versus Pakistan is likely to be rescheduled in the upcoming World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5. Notably, the arch-rivals are scheduled to face each other on October 15 but, it is also the beginning of Navratri, a festival celebrated with mass participation across Gujarat. Hence, the security forces have already advised BCCI and ICC about a possible change in date.

Meanwhile, a date change will be a nightmare for thousands of fans, who have already booked their travel and hotel in and around that time. Hence, the authorities will also have to deal with the matter carefully as it can receive massive backlash. Notably, tickets are not yet out on the market and thus, the board has the right to change the venue, especially, when the security agency has asked them to tweak the schedule.

Meanwhile, talking to The Indian Express, one of the top BCCI officials has confirmed the new development and stated that a decision regarding the same will be taken soon.

“We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon. We have been told by the security agencies that a high-profile game like India vs Pakistan, for which thousands of travelling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, should be avoided since they will be stretched because of Navratri,” the BCCI official, who did not wish to be identified, told.

However, it’s very unlikely that the board will change the venue of the match. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has previously raised their concerns regarding playing against India in Ahmedabad and hence, will be sending a team to inspect the venue in the month of August or early September. Following this, they are likely to take a call regarding their participation. However, it is widely believed that they won’t raise any objections after the Asia Cup dilemma got sorted out.

On the other hand, BCCI president Roger Binny will soon travel to Narendra Modi Stadium to inspect the venue. Other than that, the former cricketer will also oversee the development of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
