The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has retained the former India cricketer, Nikhil Chopra, as the chairperson for the 2023-24 season. In addition to this, former India cricketers Surinder Khanna and Anjali Sharma are part of the three-member committee for the forthcoming domestic season.
DDCA joint-secretary Rajan Manchanda confirmed Nikhil’s continuity for the upcoming season and the inclusion of Surinder and Anjali Sharma in the management.
“I wish the chairperson and members all the very best. We at DDCA sincerely hope they do a good job for cricket and cricketers in Delhi. Nikhil Chopra was there last season too and we wanted some continuity in the CAC so decided to retain him as the chairperson,” DDCA joint secretary Rajan Manchanda was quoted as saying by News18.
“Surinder Khanna, former India cricketer and Delhi stalwart, and former India cricketer Anjali Sharma, who has been part of DDCA Apex Council in the past, are two new additions,” he added
It is worth noting that Surinder and Anjali replaced Gursharan Singh and Reema Malhotra, who were earlier a part of the CAC in the 2022-23 season. Previously, Anjali donned the women’s selector’s hat and was also a part of the DDCA apex council. On the other hand, Surinder has served in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council prior to his role at the DDCA CAC.
DDCA to appoint coaches from Delhi unlike 2022-23 season
Unlike the previous domestic season wherein the DDCA had decided to appoint most of the selectors and coaches from outside Delhi, the forthcoming season will see a change. It is due to the fact that the move to appoint coaches from outside Delhi seemed to have backfired following the dissolving of the senior men’s selection committee led by the former India cricketer, Gagan Khoda.
The Nikhil Chopra-led committee will appoint various selectors and coaches for different age groups in order to chalk the way forward for various teams. According to reports, senior team coach Abhay Sharma is unlikely to be retained for his performances with the team for the new season.
