In this article we will reminisce the Australia’s T20 World Cup title in 2021. On the big night in Dubai, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Josh Hazlewood emerged as heroes as Australia ended their 14-year quest for their first T20 World Cup title. Despite Kane Williamson’s stunning 85, Australia easily defeated New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021 final.

Australia had won every major limited-overs trophy (5 50-over World Cups and two ICC Champions Trophy wins), but they had to wait a long time to win the game’s shortest format. Despite finishing second in 2010, Australia did not win a trophy until the 2021 edition.
Creating T20 World Cup History:
Australia skipper Aaron Finch’s decision to bowl after winning the toss appeared prudent from the outset of the final. New Zealand’s scoring was limited by a mix of good bowling and a difficult wicket, and they also lost opener Daryl Mitchell for 11 runs. The turning point for New Zealand occurred when fast bowler Josh Hazlewood dropped captain Williamson on the boundary. At the time, he had 21 runs off 21 balls. He then burst, smashing Mitchell Starc for 22 runs off a single over to reach a 32-ball 50.
However, Hazlewood claimed the wickets of Glenn Phillips and Kane Williamson after a remarkable effort of 85 runs off 48 balls in what proved to be a key over for Australia. After 20 overs, Jimmy Neesham and Tim Seifert took New Zealand to a respectable 172, meaning Australia needed 173 to win its first T20 World Cup. In response, Australia had a tight first over, with Finch surviving an early leg-before-wicket appeal after being out on the first ball in the quarterfinal. But he didn’t last long, as Trent Boult claimed the wicket, his short ball being caught in the deep by Mitchell.

Thanks to Warner and Marsh’s link, Australia was able to regroup, reaching 82-1 at the midway mark, needing 91 to win. Australia maintained its march to win with Warner’s stunning 51 off 34 balls, including a six. As the game began to slip away from them, Boult returned to the bowling attack and took Warner’s wicket, giving the Black Caps hope.
Marsh, on the other hand, reached his half-century with a tremendous six in the next over, reaching the milestone after 31 balls. Maxwell and some poor New Zealand bowling helped Australia cruise to victory, with Marsh leading the way with 77 not out. Although New Zealand’s pursuit of a T20 World Cup trophy continues, this is an epic victory for Australia, which has won all formats of cricket but has yet to win the elusive T20 World Cup. Adam Zampa, Australia’s best wicket-taker in the tournament, was instrumental in the team’s success. After the final, in which he finished with 26 runs conceded from four overs and a wicket, he stated that he hoped to capitalise on the UAE’s conditions.
