SA-W vs NZ-W lock horns in the second ODI of the three-match series at the City Oval in Pietermaritzburg, on Thursday, September 28.

Hosts South Africa followed up an impressive ODI series win in Pakistan with a commendable performance in the first game against the White Ferns on Sunday. After restricting New Zealand to 235/8, the home side sealed a gritty win with four wickets in hand and 17 balls to spare.

New Zealand got to their total on the back of half-centuries from Brooke Halliday and Hannah Rowe. Masabata Klaas was expensive but finished with a three-for, while Nadine de Klerk, who was the Player of the Series in Pakistan, impressed with figures of 2/34 in nine overs.

Proteas skipper Laura Wolvaardt scored a fighting half-century but her team needed another 125 runs when she was dismissed, with five wickets in hand. South Africa were in desperate need of a partnership and it was Nadine, who stepped up with the bat this time and stood in New Zealand’s way. Chloe Tryon showcased her talent with a scintillating 71-run knock of 58 balls. She was dismissed when the scores were levelled before Nadine scored the winning run and finished unbeaten on 58 off 77 balls. In a recent ODI match India locked horns with Australia. Cricket fans were glued to their seats throughout the match as both teams displayed their prowess and the true spirit of an ODI.
