BH-W vs. SS-W (26th Match) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the thrilling encounter between BH-W and SS-W in the 26th match of the Women’s Big Bash League on November 14, 2024. Brisbane Heat posted a competitive total of 139/9 in their allotted 20 overs, setting a challenging target of 140 runs for the Sixers. Sydney Sixers, despite a valiant effort, fell short in their chase, finishing with 127/8, giving Brisbane Heat a narrow 12-run victory. Let’s dive into the highlights and key moments of this exciting match.

Brisbane Heat Women faced a challenging task of setting a competitive total, and they managed to post 139/9 in their 20 overs. The top scorer for the team was Grace Harris, who played a brilliant knock of 39 runs from 26 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes, at a strike rate of 150.00. Georgia Redmayne contributed with 28 runs from 23 balls, while Jess Jonassen made 22 runs off 19 balls.

The middle-order batters, including Jemimah Rodrigues (8), Charli Knott (1), and Nadine de Klerk (2), struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets quickly. Laura Harris’s quickfire 12 from 6 balls provided some momentum, but Brisbane’s batting depth was exposed. Shikha Pandey remained not out on 8, and Nicola Hancock finished unbeaten on 7, but the team could only muster 139/9 in their 20 overs.

Amelia Kerr was the standout bowler for SS-W, claiming 4 wickets for just 23 runs. Sophie Ecclestone also shone with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 18 runs. Ashleigh Gardner and Lauren Cheatle each picked up 2 wickets as well, but the rest of the bowlers couldn’t break through in the middle overs as effectively.

Sydney Sixers Women, chasing a target of 140, struggled throughout their innings, eventually falling short and finishing with 127/8 in their 20 overs. The innings got off to a disastrous start as they lost their openers early. Alyssa Healy (1) and Ellyse Perry (1) were both dismissed in the first 2 overs, putting them on the back foot right away.

Amelia Kerr (4) tried to get things going but was dismissed by Shikha Pandey, and Ashleigh Gardner (10) was trapped LBW by Jess Jonassen. Hollie Armitage (17) and Sarah Bryce (30) fought back with some steady partnerships, but they could not break free from the pressure. Armitage was dismissed by Grace Parsons, and Bryce was caught by Jonassen off Parsons’ bowling.

Maitlan Brown (16) and Sophie Ecclestone (24*) gave a late push but were unable to accelerate enough to keep up with the required run rate. Caoimhe Bray (15) fell with the score at 122, and Courtney Grace Sippel (2*) was left unbeaten as the Sixers fell short by 12 runs.

BH-W’s bowlers, Shikha Pandey and Jess Jonassen, were on fire! Pandey snatched 2 wickets for just 25 runs, while Jonassen dazzled with 3 for 24, making it a bowler’s showstopper. Grace Parsons also made a significant impact, taking 2 wickets for 18 runs. Despite some resilience from Ecclestone and Bryce, the Heat’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings to secure a 12-run victory.
