Australia vs Pakistan (1st T20) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the action-packed 1st T20I match between AUS and PAK, held in Brisbane on November 14, 2024, during Pakistan’s tour of Australia. This rain-shortened, 7-over-a-side game saw both teams adapting quickly to the altered format, providing fans with an intense showdown. Australia batted first and put up a solid total of 93/4, setting Pakistan a challenging target of 94 runs. However, Pakistan struggled against Australia’s sharp bowling and ended up with just 64/9, giving Australia a comfortable 29-run victory.

In AUS rain-shortened 7-over innings against Pakistan, they managed an impressive total of 93/4, thanks largely to aggressive performances from Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.

Opening the innings, Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk made quick starts but were both dismissed early, with McGurk scoring 9 off 5 balls and Short contributing 7 off 4 balls before he was caught by Babar Azam off Haris Rauf.

Maxwell took charge, hammering 43 off 19 balls, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes at an outstanding strike rate of 226.31, showcasing his signature power hitting. His efforts set a solid foundation for Australia.

Tim David followed with a quick 10 off 8 balls before Abbas Afridi claimed his wicket, ending the partnership at a critical moment. Marcus Stoinis provided a late surge, smashing 21 off just 7 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six, to propel Australia’s total to 93.

Pakistan’s bowlers faced the brunt of Australia’s attacking approach, with Naseem Shah conceding 37 runs in his 2 overs despite picking up 1 wicket. Abbas Afridi was the most economical, taking 2 wickets for just 9 runs in his single over. Despite some resistance from Haris Rauf, who also claimed a wicket, Pakistan set a challenging target of 94 runs to win.

In Pakistan’s challenging chase of 94 runs from 7 overs, they struggled to maintain momentum and ended up at 64/9, falling 29 runs short of the target. Sahibzada Farhan started aggressively with 8 off 4 balls, hitting two boundaries before he was caught by Bartlett off Johnson’s bowling.

PAK top order quickly crumbled as Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, and Usman Khan fell in rapid succession, leaving Pakistan at 16/4 by the second over.

Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis were the standout bowlers for Australia, both taking crucial wickets early on. Bartlett claimed three key scalps, conceding only 13 runs in his 2 overs, while Ellis was even more economical, also taking three wickets for just 9 runs.

Abbas Afridi offered some resistance with 20 off 10 balls, hitting two fours and a six to keep the scoreboard ticking, but he lacked support from the other end.

Adam Zampa wrapped up the tail with two wickets in the final over, dismissing Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah to conclude Pakistan’s innings at 64/9.
