India vs South Africa (3rd T20) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the thrilling 3rd T20I match between IND and SA, held at Centurion on November 13, 2024, as part of India’s tour of South Africa. The game showcased high-intensity performances from both teams, with India ultimately emerging victorious by 11 runs. After setting a formidable target of 220 with an impressive batting display, India held off South Africa’s spirited chase to secure the win. We’ll cover the key moments, standout performances, and how India managed to close out the series with a strong bowling performance in the final overs.

IND put up a strong total of 219/6 in their 20 overs, led by a stellar innings from Tilak Varma, who scored an unbeaten 107 off 56 balls. Coming in at number three after the early dismissal of Sanju Samson for a duck, Varma anchored the innings with power and precision, striking eight fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 191.07.

He was well supported by Abhishek Sharma, who provided a fiery start with 50 runs off just 25 balls, hitting three fours and five sixes before being stumped by Klaasen off Maharaj.

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya fell quickly, with Yadav managing only 1 run and Pandya scoring 18 off 16 balls before being trapped lbw by Maharaj. Rinku Singh added 8 runs before being bowled by Simelane, but Ramandeep Singh’s quickfire 15 off 6 balls boosted India’s score in the final overs. Axar Patel remained unbeaten with Varma as India finished their innings at an impressive 219/6.

SA’s bowling had mixed results, with Marco Jansen’s disciplined 1/28 in four overs standing out. Keshav Maharaj snagged two wickets with finesse, while Andile Simelane grabbed a couple as well, though he splurged a bit on runs. Gerald Coetzee struggled, conceding 51 runs in his three overs, while Sipamla’s four overs went for 45 runs, allowing India to build a commanding total in the first innings.

Chasing a challenging target of 220, South Africa fought hard but ultimately fell short, scoring 208/7 in their 20 overs. Ryan Rickelton (20 off 15) and Reeza Hendricks (21 off 13) gave the team a brisk start, but both were dismissed within the Powerplay, setting South Africa back. Captain Aiden Markram looked promising with 29 off 18, including two sixes, before being caught by Ramandeep Singh off Varun Chakravarthy, who delivered well under pressure.

Heinrich Klaasen injected momentum with a quick 41 off 22 balls, hitting a four and four sixes, but fell to Arshdeep Singh just when South Africa needed him to stay. David Miller scored 18 off 18 but struggled to keep up with the climbing required rate.

Marco Jansen provided a late surge with a blistering 54 off just 17 balls, hammering four fours and five sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 317.64, keeping South Africa’s hopes alive until he was trapped lbw by Arshdeep in the penultimate over.

Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler for India, taking 3/37 in his four overs, including key wickets of Rickelton, Klaasen, and Jansen. Axar Patel also chipped in economically with 1/29, dismissing Stubbs lbw. Despite Jansen’s heroics, South Africa couldn’t chase down the target, falling short by 11 runs. India’s disciplined bowling effort and early breakthroughs were instrumental in their narrow victory.
