WI vs ENG (2nd T20) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the highlights of the 2nd T20I match between ENG and the WI, part of England’s tour of the West Indies, held in Bridgetown on November 10, 2024. England put on an impressive performance, comfortably chasing down the target set by the West Indies to win by 7 wickets with 31 balls to spare. We’ll look at key moments from both innings, standout players, and how England’s batting lineup effectively dominated the chase to seal this victory.

In the West Indies’ innings, England’s bowlers kept tight control, resulting in a total of 158/8 in 20 overs. West Indies struggled for momentum early on as opener Brandon King fell quickly for 1, caught by Liam Livingstone off Saqib Mahmood.

Evin Lewis tried to get going but was dismissed for 8 by Jofra Archer, leaving West Indies at 20/2. Nicholas Pooran (14 off 23) and Roston Chase (13 off 7) added runs cautiously, but Pooran’s slower strike rate added pressure, and he was eventually stumped off Livingstone.

Captain Rovman Powell was the top scorer for the West Indies, contributing a hard-fought 43 off 41 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. However, his dismissal in the 15th over, bowled by Dan Mousley, hindered West Indies’ hopes of a strong finish.

Romario Shepherd then provided a brief spark with a quick 22 off 12, striking four boundaries, before falling to Mousley. Matthew Forde added a late boost with an unbeaten 13 off 6 balls, including three boundaries, while extras contributed significantly with 29 runs, including 19 wides.

ENG bowlers shared the wickets around, with Saqib Mahmood (2/20) and Dan Mousley (2/29) leading the effort. Livingstone also took two key wickets for 16 runs in his two overs, while Archer and Rashid each picked up one wicket. England’s disciplined bowling and aggressive fielding kept West Indies to a manageable target of 158.

In England’s chase of 159, they overcame an early setback with ease, winning by 7 wickets in just 14.5 overs at an impressive run rate of 10.85. Phil Salt was dismissed on the first ball by Akeal Hosein, leaving England at 0/1.

However, Will Jacks and captain Jos Buttler quickly turned the momentum in England’s favor. Jacks scored a solid 38 off 29 balls, hitting 5 fours and a six before he was dismissed by Romario Shepherd at 129.

Buttler played a sensational innings, scoring a blistering 83 off 45 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 184.44. He dominated the West Indies bowlers, making the target look easy before falling to Shepherd shortly after Jacks. Livingstone continued the onslaught, smashing an unbeaten 23 off 11 balls with 3 fours and a six, taking England comfortably past the target.

For WI, Shepherd took 2 wickets but was expensive, conceding 42 runs in 2.5 overs. Hosein was the only other successful bowler, finishing with 1/24 from his 4 overs. The rest of the bowlers struggled, with Chase and Hinds conceding heavily. England’s aggressive batting display, led by Buttler, secured them a dominant win with 31 balls to spare.
