BH-W vs AS-W (20th Match) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the thrilling Women’s Big Bash League match between BH-W and AS-W held on November 9, 2024, in Brisbane. Brisbane Heat emerged victorious by a narrow margin of 8 runs in a high-scoring encounter. After setting a challenging target of 176 with strong batting performances, Brisbane Heat successfully defended their total as the Strikers, despite a determined chase, fell short at 167/4. We’ll break down key performances, pivotal moments, and how Brisbane Heat managed to secure this hard-fought win.

With a strong batting performance headed by Jemimah Rodrigues, who anchored the innings with an outstanding 61 off 40 balls, striking seven boundaries and one six, the Brisbane Heat Women achieved a competitive total of 175/6 in their 20 overs. Before getting caught off Jemma Barsby’s bowling in the fifth over, Grace Harris set the tone early on with a blistering 33 from 22 balls that included six fours and one six.

Georgia Redmayne struggled to find her rhythm, managing just 7 runs off 16 balls before falling to Orla Prendergast. Captain Jess Jonassen contributed a valuable 32 off 21 deliveries, maintaining a strike rate over 150, and adding crucial momentum with six boundaries.

Late in the innings, Nadine de Klerk provided a swift finishing touch, smashing 23 off just 10 balls with a strike rate of 230, helping push the total beyond 170.

In Adelaide Strikers’ bowling, Jemma Barsby stood out with figures of 2/34, picking up Harris and Charli Knott at critical moments. Megan Schutt and Darcie Brown each claimed a wicket but were expensive, with Schutt conceding 41 in her four overs. Orla Prendergast and Amanda-Jade Wellington also took a wicket each, but the consistent boundaries from Brisbane Heat batters ensured a challenging target of 176 for the Strikers.

Adelaide Strikers Women fought hard but ultimately fell short of the 176-run target, finishing their 20 overs at 167/4. The top order crumbled early, with Katie Mack (4), Smriti Mandhana (6), and Laura Wolvaardt (3) dismissed within the first four overs, leaving Adelaide struggling at 16/3. Captain Tahlia McGrath attempted to steady the innings with 25 off 24 balls, but she was stumped off Nadine de Klerk, leaving the Strikers at 54/4.

Bridget Patterson and Madeline Penna then staged a remarkable recovery, building an unbeaten 113-run partnership. Patterson played a crucial anchor role, scoring 61 off 47 balls with five fours and two sixes. Penna’s explosive 59 off just 30 balls, including ten boundaries, kept Adelaide’s hopes alive until the final over. Despite their best efforts, the Strikers fell 8 runs short, giving Brisbane Heat the victory.

For Brisbane, Shikha Pandey, Charli Knott, Nicola Hancock, and Nadine de Klerk each claimed a wicket, effectively halting Adelaide’s momentum in the early overs. While the Heat’s bowlers struggled to contain Patterson and Penna in the latter half, their early breakthroughs ensured that Brisbane held on for a narrow win.
