Bangladesh won the match by 68 runs, with solid batting contributions and effective bowling performances ensuring their victory.

BAN set a competitive total of 252/7 in their 50 overs against Afghanistan in the 2nd ODI in Sharjah on November 9, 2024. Tanzid Hasan got them off to a quick start with 22 off 17 balls before being dismissed by Ghazanfar. 

Soumya Sarkar contributed 35 runs from 49 balls but was dismissed by Rashid Khan. Najmul Hossain Shanto anchored the innings with a top score of 76, facing 119 balls and hitting 6 fours and 1 six, before being dismissed by Nangeyalia Kharote. 

Mehidy Hasan Miraz struggled for 22 runs from 33 balls, falling to Rashid Khan. Towhid Hridoy (11) and Mahmudullah (3) both fell cheaply to Kharote, leaving Bangladesh at 174/5. Jaker Ali provided late resistance, scoring an unbeaten 37 off 27 balls, including 1 four and 3 sixes, while Nasum Ahmed (25) and Taskin Ahmed (2*) made valuable lower-order contributions. 

AFG bowlers, especially Rashid Khan (2/32) and Nangeyalia Kharote (3/28), kept the scoring rate under control and picked up crucial wickets, but Bangladesh’s middle and lower order pushed them to a solid total of 252/7.

Afghanistan’s chase of 253 runs in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh fell short as they were bowled out for 184 in 43.3 overs. The innings began poorly with Rahmanullah Gurbaz dismissed for just 2, caught by Soumya Sarkar off Taskin Ahmed. Sediqullah Atal (39) and Rahmat Shah (52) steadied the ship with a 68-run partnership, but Atal was dismissed by Nasum Ahmed. Shah’s resistance ended when he was run out for 52, leaving Afghanistan at 119/4.

Azmatullah Omarzai fell for a duck to Nasum Ahmed, and Gulbadin Naib (26) was dismissed by Shoriful Islam. Mohammad Nabi (17) and Rashid Khan (14) were both dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, respectively. 

Nangeyalia Kharote (4) was stumped off Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and AM Ghazanfar (1) was dismissed by Nasum Ahmed as Afghanistan’s lower order crumbled. The Afghan side could not recover from these collapses, falling 68 runs short of the target. 

Nasum Ahmed was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 28 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman claimed 2 wickets each. Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling and Afghanistan’s poor batting contributed to the comprehensive 68-run victory for Bangladesh.
