Afghanistan’s innings against Bangladesh in the first ODI at Sharjah on November 6, 2024, saw a determined performance despite early setbacks. Bangladesh’s bowlers made quick inroads, with Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed dismissing Afghanistan’s top order.
Gurbaz caught behind for just 5 runs. Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah followed soon after, both falling to Mustafizur, leaving Afghanistan at a precarious 35/4 within the first 10 overs.
Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Mohammad Nabi then anchored the innings with crucial partnerships. Shahidi played a patient knock of 52 off 92 balls, stabilizing the middle order before being bowled by Mustafizur.
The real boost came from Nabi, who delivered a quick 84 off 79 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, keeping the scoreboard ticking at over a run-a-ball. His contributions, alongside lower-order support from Nangeyalia Kharote, who chipped in with a valuable 27 not out, helped Afghanistan reach 235.
Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman were the standout bowlers for Bangladesh, each taking four wickets, with Taskin also keeping the run rate under control in his 10 overs, conceding just 53 runs. Shoriful Islam claimed a wicket as well, keeping the pressure on Afghanistan throughout their innings.
