MI vs CSK (3rd Match) – Highlights
The Indian Premier League 2025 witnessed yet another classic clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in the third match of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK, playing in front of a packed home crowd, successfully chased down Mumbai’s total of 155 with four wickets in hand and five balls to spare. The match had its fair share of twists and turns, with some outstanding individual performances making the difference.
Put in to bat first, MI had a disastrous start as their experienced opener and former captain, Rohit Sharma, departed for a duck in the very first over. The early breakthrough gave Chennai the momentum, which was further amplified by Noor Ahmad, the star of the match. Ryan Rickelton looked promising but fell for 13, while Will Jacks contributed 11 before being dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin.
Suryakumar Yadav, leading the side, played a vital innings of 29 runs off 26 balls but failed to accelerate as Noor Ahmad struck again. Tilak Varma’s 31 provided some stability, but once he fell to Noor Ahmad, MI’s innings started to collapse. Robin Minz, Naman Dhir, and Mitchell Santner could not make significant contributions, with Noor Ahmad finishing with excellent figures of 4/18 in his four-over spell.
Towards the end, Deepak Chahar’s explosive 28 off 15 balls helped MI reach a respectable total of 155/9 in 20 overs. Khaleel Ahmed also played a crucial role for CSK, picking up three wickets and keeping Mumbai’s batters under pressure.
Chennai Super Kings’ chase began with a setback as Rahul Tripathi fell early for just 2 runs. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad counter-attacked brilliantly, playing a captain’s knock of 53 runs from just 26 balls. His innings, laced with six boundaries and three sixes, provided the perfect foundation for the chase.
Rachin Ravindra, opening alongside Tripathi, played a match-winning innings, anchoring CSK’s chase with a composed 65 off 45 balls. Even when wickets started falling around him, Ravindra held his nerve and ensured that CSK remained ahead in the game.
MI’s bowlers tried to make a comeback, with Vignesh Puthur picking up three crucial wickets, including Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda. Will Jacks also contributed with the ball, dismissing Sam Curran for a struggling 4 off 9 balls. However, Ravindra’s presence in the middle ensured that CSK never lost control.
A slight scare came towards the end when Ravindra Jadeja was run out for 17, but MS Dhoni walked in and calmly saw the team through, remaining unbeaten at the crease. CSK reached the target in 19.1 overs, securing a well-earned victory.
