Bangladesh vs West Indies (1st T20) – Highlights

In this article we will take a look back on Bangladesh vs West Indies Highlights. Bangladesh clinched a nerve-wracking seven-run win against West Indies in the first T20I at the Arnos Vale Ground, marking their first T20I victory over the hosts in six years. Defending 147, Bangladesh delivered a thrilling performance led by Mahedi Hasan’s stunning four-wicket haul and Hasan Mahmud’s ice-cool composure in the final over. The match, West Indies’ first international game in St. Vincent in a decade, had a packed crowd treated to a rollercoaster contest, filled with breathtaking moments and twists until the very end.

BAN bowling unit set the tone early after Taskin Ahmed removed Brandon King with the first ball of the innings. Mahedi Hasan then took charge, dismantling the West Indies top order with a spell of 4 for 13. His variations and control proved too much for Nicholas Pooran, who was stumped after charging down the pitch, and for Andre Fletcher and Roston Chase, who fell in quick succession.

By the time Mahedi completed his four overs, WI were reeling at 38 for 5, seemingly out of the contest. Taskin and debutant Tanzim Hasan Sakib supported Mahedi by maintaining pressure, leaving the hosts in tatters.

Just as the game looked in Bangladesh’s grasp, Rovman Powell turned the tide with a breathtaking counterattack. Walking in at 61 for 7, Powell unleashed his power-hitting prowess, smashing four sixes and five fours in a 35-ball 60. He partnered with Romario Shepherd to stitch a 49-run stand that breathed life back into the West Indies chase.

Powell targeted BAN seamers ruthlessly, taking 23 runs off a Taskin Ahmed over, including three monstrous sixes that thrilled the home crowd. His effortless strokeplay reduced the equation from over 11 runs per over to a manageable eight, putting immense pressure on the visitors. Shepherd also joined the act with a six off Rishad Hossain but fell shortly after for 22, leaving Powell to carry the chase.

The game came down to the wire with West Indies needing 10 runs in the final over. Hasan Mahmud rose to the occasion, delivering a masterclass in death bowling. He started by dismissing Powell with a sharp delivery that found the edge, with Litton Das completing his fifth dismissal of the match.

With eight needed off two balls, Mahmud bowled Alzarri Joseph to spark jubilant celebrations for Bangladesh. The thrilling finish ensured Bangladesh’s win coincided with the nation’s Victory Day, making the moment even more special for fans back home.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s innings had been a mixed bag. Akeal Hosein starred for West Indies during the powerplay, striking on consecutive deliveries to remove Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das, leaving the visitors struggling.

Soumya Sarkar then led a recovery with a steady 43, while Shamim Hossain’s late surge, including three sixes, added valuable runs. Jaker Ali and Mahedi Hasan also chipped in with crucial boundaries as Bangladesh smashed nine sixes in their innings, their most against West Indies in a T20I.

Despite Powell’s heroics and Hosein’s brilliance, Bangladesh’s determination and sharp bowling proved decisive in a match that went down to the final moments. With this thrilling win, they take a 1-0 lead in the series, leaving WI with plenty of questions to answer before the second game.
