His confident stroke play included two towering sixes over long-off, but his impressive run-a-ball 60 ended in the 24th over when Alzarri Joseph had him caught at point, leaving him visibly disappointed.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz top-scored with 74 off 101 balls, benefiting from dropped chances on 1 and 31. He built a steady 54-run stand with Afif Hossain before Shepherd dismissed Afif. Mehidy’s highlight was a whipped six over fine leg off Jayden Seales, but his innings ended in the 38th over, caught at extra cover by Rutherford.
Jaker Ali and Mahmudullah capitalized on Mehidy’s foundation with a 96-run stand, 84 coming in the last ten overs. Mahmudullah’s unbeaten 50 off 44 balls, featuring three sixes and as many fours, powered a strong finish, leaving the opposition bowlers struggling in the death overs.
WI bowlers had mixed fortunes, with Romario Shepherd standing out, claiming 3 wickets for 51 runs in his 10 overs. Alzarri Joseph provided solid backup, claiming two key scalps, while Jayden Seales chipped in with a crucial wicket to bolster the attack.
Chasing 295, West Indies recovered from early setbacks, losing both openers Brandon King (9) and Evin Lewis (16) within the first eight overs. Shai Hope steadied the innings with a composed 86 off 88 balls, supported by Keacy Carty’s 21.
However, the turning point was Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive 113 off just 80 balls, featuring seven fours and eight towering sixes. His century, combined with Justin Greaves’ unbeaten 41 off 31 balls, sealed the victory for West Indies with 14 balls to spare.
BAN bowlers tried hard, with Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nahid Rana, Rishad Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Soumya Sarkar picking a wicket each. Despite their efforts, Rutherford’s fireworks proved too much, earning West Indies a commanding five-wicket win.
