BAN vs WI (3rd T20) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the third T20I match of the Bangladesh tour of the West Indies, played on December 19, 2024, at Kingstown. BAN set a formidable total of 189/7, showcasing strong batting performances. In reply, the West Indies faltered in their pursuit, crumbling under pressure to be dismissed for a mere 109 runs in just 16.4 overs. Bangladesh triumphed with an emphatic 80-run victory, stamping their authority and sealing the series in style.

Bangladesh, after being put to bat first, posted a challenging total of 189/7 in their 20 overs. The innings was built on strong contributions from several players, with Parvez Hossain Emon playing a scintillating knock of 39 runs from just 21 balls. His innings included 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, and he maintained a rapid strike rate of 185.71.

Litton Das, the BAN captain, was dismissed early for 14 runs off 13 balls, but the innings was anchored by Jaker Ali, who was the standout performer. Ali played an outstanding knock of 72* from 41 balls, striking at 175.60 with 3 fours and 6 sixes. His ability to find the boundaries, especially towards the end, was key in propelling Bangladesh to a total beyond 180.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the middle-order batsman, also contributed a valuable 29 runs from 23 balls. His innings included 3 boundaries, but his primary role was to support Jaker Ali in building partnerships and ensuring the team kept the scoreboard ticking.

Bangladesh’s batting saw a couple of quick dismissals, including Shamim Hossain (2) and Mahedi Hasan (0), both of whom were run out. Rishad Hossain did not get a chance to face many balls, remaining unbeaten on 0* as the innings ended at 189/7.

The WI response was disappointing, as they failed to build partnerships and crumbled under pressure. The West Indian top order was quickly dismantled by Bangladesh’s bowlers. Brandon King, opening the batting, was dismissed for a duck in the second ball of the innings, and Johnson Charles was run out for 23 runs off 18 balls, leaving the West Indies in early trouble at 7/2.

Justin Greaves was the next to go, caught by substitute Afif Hossain off Mahedi Hasan’s bowling for just 6 runs. Nicholas Pooran, the West Indies’ wicketkeeper-batsman, tried to anchor the innings but fell for 15 runs after being bowled by Mahedi Hasan.

Roston Chase’s brief stay ended with a catch to Mahedi Hasan, falling for 0 runs, while Rovman Powell was dismissed for just 2 runs. At this point, the West Indies were teetering at 46/5, and the game seemed to be slipping away from them.

Romario Shepherd (33), Gudakesh Motie (12), and Obed McCoy (4) attempted to rally but were unable to put together meaningful partnerships. Shepherd, though hitting a six and a four, fell short of a big score and was dismissed in the 15th over. The lower order collapsed rapidly as Rishad Hossain (3/21) and Taskin Ahmed (2/30) tightened the noose around the West Indies.

The West Indies were eventually bowled out for a mere 109 runs in 16.4 overs, falling well short of their target of 190. Bangladesh’s bowlers were exceptional in their performance, with Taskin Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib all picking up crucial wickets. Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain were the pick of the bowlers, providing early breakthroughs and cleaning up the tail, respectively.

This win not only secured a comfortable margin for Bangladesh but also showcased their depth in both batting and bowling. The West Indies, on the other hand, will have to reflect on their batting approach, especially after such a top-order collapse. With Bangladesh winning by 80 runs, the visitors completed a clinical performance in the third T20I, leaving the West Indies with plenty to work on before the next encounter.
