HKG vs QAT (4th Match) – Highlights

Hong Kong delivered a dominant all-round performance to thrash Qatar by 68 runs in the fourth match of the Quadrangular T20 Series held at Mong Kok on April 10, 2025. The home side put up an imposing total of 197 for 7, backed by strong contributions from their top and middle order, and followed it up with a clinical bowling display that dismantled the Qatari batting lineup for just 129 in 19.1 overs.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, HKG got off to a flying start with wicketkeeper-batsman Zeeshan Ali setting the tone. He struck 38 off 25 deliveries, smashing seven boundaries before falling in the eighth over. His opening partner, Anshy Rath, anchored the innings beautifully with a composed knock of 58 from 42 balls. Rath paced his innings well, rotating the strike and finding the boundary at key moments to keep the momentum going.

The middle order saw a quick surge of runs thanks to a fiery innings from Babar Hayat, who blasted 42 off just 23 balls, including four sixes. Though there were stumbles with quick wickets falling in the latter part of the innings, including the skipper Yasim Murtaza (10 off 7) and Waqas Barkat for a duck, the lower order managed to push the score close to the 200-run mark. Ehsan Khan chipped in with a quickfire 13 not out off 5 balls, and Kalhan Challu added 12 off 9 to ensure Hong Kong finished with a formidable 197/7 in their 20 overs.

QAT bowling effort saw some success through Mohammed Irshad, who was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 24 in his 3 overs. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman supported well, taking 2 wickets for 26 runs in his full quota. However, the rest of the bowling attack leaked runs and struggled to contain Hong Kong’s aggressive batting.

Chasing 198 was always going to be a stiff task, and QAT faltered early with the loss of Rifayi Theruvath for a duck in the first over. Though captain Ikramullah Khan tried to counterattack with a quick 14 off 8 balls, wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. The only significant resistance came from Shahzaib Jamil, who played a gutsy knock of 37 off 22 balls, including three sixes, and Bukhar Illikkal who added a brisk 25.

HKG bowlers were relentless. Waqas Barkat emerged as the star of the innings, earning the Player of the Match award for his exceptional spell of 4 for 18 in 4 overs, including a maiden. His intelligent variations and control stifled the middle and lower order of Qatar. Ehsan Khan was equally effective, returning with 2 for 17 in his 4 overs. Young Ayush Shukla also impressed, picking up 2 wickets for 19 runs.

In the end, Qatar were bundled out for 129 in 19.1 overs, falling short by a massive 68-run margin. This win not only boosts Hong Kong’s net run rate but also strengthens their position in the series as they eye a spot in the final.
