Shami and Bumrah (Twitter)
Legendary Indian pacer Zaheer Khan recently picked his top four-five fast bowlers in modern-day cricket. He named compatriots Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami on the list and credited them for India’s success in Test cricket in all conditions.
Zaheer mentioned that India have made it to the finals of the World Test Championship in back-to-back editions. Bumrah and Shami’s contributions during the two campaigns were invaluable and made India a force to reckon with. Apart from Bumrah and Shami, Zaheer named South Africa’s spearhead Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s ever-dependable Josh Hazlewood. The left-arm seamer, who recently joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), also picked Pat Cummins as one of the contenders.

“India have been performing exceptionally well and have been part of two World Test Championship finals. India have done well consistently in all conditions. So, I would surely pick Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in my Fab Four. Apart from them, it would be Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood. Pat Cummins is also one of the contenders. These are the four or five bowlers who have made an impact in Test cricket consistently,” Zaheer told Cricbuzz.
The way Gautam Gambhir played cricket, you can also see that in his coaching: Zaheer Khan
Gautam Gambhir has had a good start to his coaching career at the Indian team. He guided India to a 3-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka in a T20I series in July to kick-start his journey in the new role. However, the Men in Blue went down 0-2 in the subsequent three-match ODI series. Gambhir’s start in Test cricket has been solid as India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the lopsided first Test in Chennai last week.
Zaheer, who spent many years in the Indian team along with Gambhir during their playing days, said that the former Kolkata Knight Riders captain is very passionate about the game. The former also mentioned that Gambhir’s coaching style is similar to the way he used to play.
“When you talk about Gautam Gambhir, the hunger to win is very evident and he is very passionate about cricket. These were the same qualities that made him a good cricketer and he will look at the game in the same way as a coach too. His playing style and the way he played cricket, you can also see that in his coaching. Yes, you will improve as you spend more time there, but the basic coaching style is very similar to your playing style,” Zaheer said.
