Former world champion and India all rounder Yuvraj Singh revealed his thoughts in the aftermath of the hosts getting inflicted a series whitewash at the hands of the visitors aka New Zealand. Notably, the gargantuan feat was achieved by the Blackcaps after 24 years. In the same vein, Singh took to his social media and put forth his thoughts on how the Indians fared in a series which was also an important part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC 2023-25).

A spirited New Zealand side beat India by 25 runs in the third and the final Test of the series to complete a 3-0 clean sweep, at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. Notably, the last time the Indian side suffered such a fate was back in 2000 against the Hansie Cronje-led side, South Africa. While sharing his thoughts, Yuvraj Singh called the topsy-turvy turnaround by the Kiwis the ‘beauty of the game’. For the unversed, not long ago, Team India were crowned as the world champions in the T20I format.

“Cricket truly is a humbling sport, isn’t it? Just months after our T20 World Cup win, we face a historic whitewash. That’s the beauty of this game! Bigger tests lie ahead with the Australia series & the way forward is to introspect, learn and look up! Congratulations to the @BLACKCAPS on a well-rounded performance and a historic win,” Yuvraj wrote on his ‘X’ handle.

India will tour Australia in a bid to seal WTC Final spot

Speaking of the impact of the third Test’s result, Team India have now slumped to the number two position as Australia climbed up to take the pole position in the WTC standings. Hence, the Indian side will now have a stiff road ahead to qualify for the WTC final, which is scheduled to take place in June, next year. The Indian side will be touring Australia for a five-match Test series down under.

As things stand currently, India will now have to win at least four games on Australian soil to have any chance of making it to the summit clash. Besides, the fans and cricket experts alike are concerned about the form of the senior India players in the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, respectively. Hence it will be interesting how the Rohit Sharma-led side will put the defeats in the past and approach the Australia tour with a positive mindset.
