Other than India’s 10-wicket loss in the Pink Ball Test at the Adelaide Oval, the most talked about aspect of the game was the scuffle between Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head. The heated exchange between the duo after Siraj gave an agitated send-off to the southpaw has drawn the attention of former India cricketer, Mohammad Kaif.
While India captain Rohit Sharma stated that the pacer procures momentum through his approach, he would like to channelise that and back the same as captain rather than avoiding it. Kaif, however, had a different say altogether on the incident. The veteran noted that, Siraj’s behaviour with Marnus Labuschagne was questionable as it did not fit the bill of cricket which is touted as gentlemen’s game.

“(Marnus) Labuschagne was batting and there was some movement behind the sightscreen. He backed away but Siraj came and threw the ball near the stumps. That was also not the right way. He misbehaved. The kids watch you as a role model. You wouldn’t want to set the wrong example. You wouldn’t want to tarnish the image of the gentleman’s game,” Kaif said in a video shared on social media.
I didn’t like the send-off: Kaif
Head was dropped by Siraj when he had just reached his half-century. The batter then took substantial risk and started dealing in boundaries and scored 140 runs in just 141 deliveries. Kaif added that, the damage was already done and the Hyderabad pacer reacting after claiming his wicket was uncalled for.
“After that, Siraj bowled him. I understand the celebration, but I didn’t like the send-off. If you know he has a weakness, then get him out early. Get him nicking to the slips or dismiss him with a bouncer, then do your celebrations, but the guy has scored 140… there was no need for a send-off like that,” Kaif concluded.
