Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled at the nets on Sunday, September 15, four days ahead of India’s first Test versus Bangladesh, which will be played at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Former captain Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir stepped in to help the youngster regain his mojo.

According to a a report in the Indian Express, Kohli was waiting for his turn to bat as he stood beside the center square of the MA Chidambaram Stadium where the incident took place. Jasprit Bumrah sent Jaiswal’s middle stump for a walk as the ball sneaked in between the southpaw’s bat and pad. Getting dismissed to a generational talent like Bumrah isn’t extraordinary but his repeated struggles against the talismanic pacer didn’t go unnoticed and Kohli called him up for a chat.

What was more concerning was the fact that the other pacers like Akash Deep, who troubled Jaiswal in the Duleep Trophy 2024 clash between India A and India B, Mohammed Siraj, and net bowler from Jammu and Kashmir – Yudhvir Singh also had the upper hand against the Mumbai batter. Jaiswal returned to bat after the brief interaction with Kohli, but his struggles continued.

Gambhir pulls up Jaiswal for a 20-minute throw down session

Gambhir, one of India’s best left-handed batters of all time, stepped in and took Jaiswal to the nets area for a 20-minute training session where he faced throw downs, with a focus on getting behind the line of the balls.

Jaiswal scored a whopping 712 runs during India’s five-match Test series against England earlier this year. However, since that remarkable performance, the youngster has flattered to deceive. He had a quiet Indian Premier League (IPL) season and warmed the bench for the entirety of the T20 World Cup 2024. Jaiswal’s form at the top of the order is going to be very crucial as India are set to play 10 Test matches overs the next few months, including the high-voltage Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, starting in November.

However, on the bright side, the report suggests that Jaiswal batted with consummate ease against the spinners, depositing them for big sixes on the on-side.
