WTC Standings: India enjoy top-tier view as England's ratio slops

India secured a brilliant 4–1 series win over England with an innings and 64-run win in the fifth and final Test at Dharamsala. After losing the opening Test in Hyderabad, India came back strong to win the next four matches in commanding fashion. With this victory, India sit comfortably at the top of the World Test Championship points table, and have bettered their point percentage ratio with the recent triumph.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was named Player of the Series after scoring 712 runs at an incredible average of 118.67, including two astonishing double tons. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav took 5/72 in the first innings in Dharamsala to seal victory and claim the Player of the Match award. India completely outplayed England with brilliant performances across all departments. Their batters piled on the runs, with captain Rohit Sharma scoring a magnificent 103 in the first innings of the final Test. The bowling unit was spearheaded by the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep.

The focus now shifts to the ongoing second Test between New Zealand and Australia at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The upcoming challenges for India will begin later this year with facing Bangladesh and New Zealand at home. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia too will be crucial for Rohit Sharma’s men.

India sit at the top of the points table

India, after their victory against England currently stands at the top of the table, they added 12 crucial points, raising their overall tally to 74 points. With a PCT of 68.51 after nine matches, including six wins, two losses, and a draw, Rohit Sharma’s men are in prime position. Meanwhile, England finds themselves reeling in eighth place, having faced defeats in six encounters in the 10 Test matches played so far, with a PCT of 17.50.

While Australia and New Zealand who are just below the Indian team will be looking to strengthen their position in the WTC points table by the end of the ongoing series.
