The race for the final spots of the World Test Championship (WTC) is heating up, with Bangladesh registering a historic win, and defeating Pakistan across a two-match Test series, the race has become nothing but more interesting. It is appealing to note that Bangladesh is in its best run across the three editions of the WTCs.
Having won just one game across 19 matches in the first two editions combined, they have managed to win three in the ongoing 2023-25 cycle alone. Having started near the bottom in the standings, after their series win, Bangladesh now sit fourth, after their win against Pakistan in the second Test at Rawalpindi.
On the other hand, Pakistan, who lost the series against Bangladesh, has now lost five successive Tests and has taken Bangladesh’s place at eighth. With their dreams to make the final look increasingly unlikely, the side will aim to make some changes and fast.
Continuing on the same, let us read ahead and find out what the likes of India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan need to do in order to make the WTC final 2025:
Bangladesh
Winning their series against Pakistan, Bangladesh will now take on India, which will be followed by a tour to the Caribbean before hosting South Africa at home to complete their cycle. Despite their series win against Pakistan, it has not changed their fate as much, Bangladesh needs at least four wins out of their next six matches to stay in the race, and their chances of making it to the final are negligible as well.
India
With nine Tests played, team India has registered six wins, two losses, and one draw. The Rohit Sharma-led side occupy first place in the WTC standings with 74 points to their name. In the pole position, India is set to make yet another appearance in the WTC final, having ended up as runners-up in the previous two editions. Currently, India requires five wins out of their next 10 matches to confirm a spot in what could be their third consecutive final at the marquee ICC event.

Pakistan
Having played seven games so far, Pakistan has only managed to win two matches and has lost the remaining five. With 16 points to their name, they sit in eighth place in the standings and are only ahead of the West Indies. To stay in the race, the side needs to win every single Test remaining in their cycle, but their aim is to make the final look next to impossible.
