WPL 2025: Phoebe Litchfield praises Gardner, Gujarat Giants bowlers after recent win

Phoebe Litchfield, the star batter of Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) applauded teammate and captain Ashleigh Gardner and the team’s bowlers after their interesting victory in the WPL.

Litchfield focused on Gardner’s all-round excellence and the match-winning brunt of the bowling unit. Ashleigh Gardner, known for her all-round skills and destructive batting, played an important role in the Gujarat Giants’ successful win. Moreover, she also lauded the way she leads the team from the front despite immense pressure.

“She’s awesome. Batting alongside her feels like a taste of home. She’s very calm and composed at the crease, and she has the ability to turn a game around with her destructive batting. We needed a big over, and she delivered it perfectly against the leg-spinner, bringing us back to a run-a-ball rate. From there, it was just about finishing the chase,” Litchfield told JioHotstar while reflecting on her performance in the ongoing Women’s T20 cricket carnival,

“Her ability to captain, bowl effectively, and bat explosively makes her a huge asset for our team. We absolutely love having her on our side,” she added.

Gujarat Giants gain much-needed win

While the batters ensured a smooth journey to the win, the base for the Gujarat Giants triumph was taken care by their entire bowling unit. Litchfield appreciated the bowlers for setting the tone early, most importantly in the powerplay. Kashvee Gautam, the pacer and all-rounder Deandra Dottin played important roles with the ball, earning high recognition and praise from Litchfield.

“Our bowlers were outstanding today. They won us the game, no doubt about it. Taking three wickets in the powerplay immediately puts the opposition under pressure. We’ve been in that situation ourselves in the last two games, so we understand how difficult it is to recover from that,” she continued.

“The way Kashvee and Deandra bowled up front was simply superb. I genuinely think Kashvee is going to be a massive talent in the future. As an Aussie, I have to admit—I’m a little scared! It’s fantastic to have her on our side in the WPL,” Litchfield concluded.
