The third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is looming on the horizon, and the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is hard at work in deciding the dates and venues for the marquee tournament. The board is yet to officially inform the five franchises about the dates and the venues as well.
However, according to latest reports, the 2025 season of the tournament is expected to kick off on the 6th or 7th of February. Furthermore, just like last year, the WPL will once again be held in the caravan format. The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow hosting the first leg, followed by Vadodara, which also will host the final, expected to be played on March 9.
The Kotambi Stadium which is quite far away from Vadodara city had recently hosted its first international series with the India Women’s team featuring in a three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
“Since there will be 23 games, it will be held in two venues. The idea is to spread the game across the country,” a source in the know was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
RCB-W look to defend title
With the new season of the WPL approaching, many eyes would be set upon Royal Challengers Bengaluru women. The side scripted history by winning the WPL 2023 under Smriti Mandhana’s leadership. The women’s division of the franchise achieved what the men’s team has been unable to do so far.
Furthermore, with the new season of the WPL around the corner, RCB Women will hope for similar performances in the new season and will look to defend their title as well.
