Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) lost their second consecutive match of Women’s Premier League 2024 against Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) by seven wickets on Saturday, Match 9 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. After being put in to bat first, RCB could only manage to score 131/6 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, MI chased down the target in 15.1 overs and moved to the top of the points table.
While, there wasn’t much to cheer for RCB fans during the entire game, a brilliant fielding effort by Shreyanka Patil caught the attention of fans. The incident took place on the last ball of the sixth over in the second innings as Hayley Matthews smacked Sophie Devine down the ground. However, Patil, who was stationed at long-on, jumped to her full height to catch the ball and showed great presence of mind to get rid of it before she fell over. As a result, Patil saved crucial five runs for her side.

Earlier, Georgia Wareham also saved a certain six with her acrobatic skills during RCB’s previous game against Delhi Capitals. Her effort on the boundary reminded fans of legendary AB de Villiers who pulled off a sensational catch on the boundary during IPL 2018.
Elysse Perry rescued RCB’s innings
Coming back to the match, RCB-W vs DC-W game, RCB were lost their captain Smriti Mandhana (9 off 11) early in the innings. The situation got worse for the hosts as Sophie Devine (9 off 10), Sabbhineni Meghana (11 off 12), Richa Ghosh (7 off 10) and Sophie Molineux (12 off 14) departed cheaply leaving RCB on 71/5 after 12.1 overs. However, Elysse Perry (44* off 38) and Georgia Wareham (27 off 20) guided their team to a decent score of 131/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, Mumbai comfortably chased down the target in 15.1 overs with valuable contributions from Yastika Bhatia (31 off 15), Hayley Matthews (26 off 21), Nat Sciver-Brunt (27 off 25) and Amelia Kerr (40* off 24), who was also adjudged Player of the Match.
