The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made an official announcement, revealing that the players’ auction for the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 will take place on December 9 in Mumbai.

The auction is expected to be an exciting event, setting the stage for the second edition of the WPL, which is scheduled to take place in February-March next year. Mumbai Indians emerged victorious in the first edition earlier this year, with Harmanpreet Kaur leading the team.

The five franchises – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, and UP Warriorz – have retained 60 players, including 21 from overseas, and released 29 players. The auction promises to bring about new developments and changes, shaping the future landscape of the WPL.

As far as player retention is concerned, Delhi Capitals secured a formidable lineup with stars like Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, and Jess Jonassen. On the flip side, players like Aparna Mondal and Jasia Akhter bid adieu to the Delhi franchise.

Gujarat Giants have held on to powerhouses like Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney, reinforcing their squad for the upcoming battles. Notable releases include Annabel Sutherland and Kim Garth.

The Mumbai Indians, with a stellar retained lineup featuring Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr, seem poised to defend their title. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz have also made strategic choices in player retention.
