Dashing Australia batter Alyssa Healy has been appointed to lead UP Warriorz in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which is slated to begin on March 4.

Notably, the 32-year-old has scored 2446 runs in 139 T20 internationals at a strike rate of 127.72. She has been sensational for Australia over the years and has won five T20 World Cups (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2020) in her career and also the ODI World Cup in 2022. Thus, she has enormous experience and can eventually help the UP-based team to win the tournament in the first season itself.

Meanwhile, after being appointed as the skipper of the team, Healy revealed that she is eager to play in the tournament and that the team have a good balance of youth and experience.

“The WPL is a tournament we have all been keenly waiting on, and the UP Warriorz have a fantastic squad, waiting to making a splash once things get going,” Healy said in a statement issued by Warriorz.

“We have a good mix of experience and youth along with ability and look forward to putting on a show for our fans. We are here to win and be ruthless in our brand of cricket,” the statement further read.

Meanwhile, Rajesh Sharma, the managing director of Capri Global, who owns the UP Warriorz franchise has lauded Healy and stated that she has immense experience at the highest level and her winning habit will help the team in the maiden season ahead of the intriguing WPL schedule.

“Alyssa is a giant of the game and has an immense amount of experience at the highest level, and also has the winning habit which we want in our team,” Rajesh Sharma said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“We hope that the UP Warriorz can make significant strides in this important journey under the leadership of Alyssa Healy, and go on to be a source of joy and inspiration for the women of UP,” he added.
