The two high-flying teams of the Women’s Premier League 2023– Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians will cross swords in the seventh game of the tournament at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Delhi and Mumbai have won both the games that they have played in the league so far and thus, one of the sides will be handed their first defeat.
Looking at the current form of the two sides, it surely will be a mouth-watering contest. Opening batters of the two sides- Mumbai Indians’ Hayley Matthews and Delhi Capitals’ Meg Lanning have been putting up tough competition for the WPL Orange Cap. While skipper Lanning is the leading run-scorer of the tournament, Matthews is just 18 runs behind her and is the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer.
Delhi Capitals have posted a score above 200 in both of their encounters so far and managed to win the games comprehensively. Not just the batters, but the bowlers too have been at their best in defending the totals. Mumbai Indians’ case has been similar as they too have managed to clinch victories against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants comfortably.
As for Mumbai, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s plans have fallen in place so far and she would be hoping to carry the same momentum in the upcoming contest as well. Six-time T20 World Cup champion Meg Lanning led her team from the front and has been in brilliant touch with the bat. Predicting the winner of the game surely is a tough task, and it would be interesting to see which team extends its winning streak to three.
Pitch and Conditions:
The surface at the DY Patil Stadium is a high-scoring one, and the recent encounters have been a proof to it. At the ongoing WPL, teams have even gone on to score runs in excess of 200, and something similar can be expected int he contest between Mumbai and Delhi. Captain winning the toss might look to bat first and pile up runs on board.
Probable Playing XI for DEL-W vs MI-W
Delhi Capitals Women
Delhi Capitals have the advantage of fielding five overseas players. The inclusion of associate nation player Tara Norris has worked wonders for Delhi, as she became the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in WPL, during her very first outing with the team. Given their form, Delhi Capitals are unlikely to make any changes to their XI.
Probable Playing XI: Meg Lanning (c), Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Jemimah Rodrigues, Alice Capsey, Jess Jonassen, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Arundhati Reddy, Shikha Pandey, Radha Yadav, Tara Norris
Mumbai Indians Women
Mumbai Indians are in terrific form, but they might look to bring Heather Graham into the combination. Issy Wong, who has been conceding quite a few runs in limited overs of her spell, might make way for Graham. The top-order batters are in good touch, and Saika Ishaque will be the one to lookout for with the ball.
Probable Playing XI: Yastika Bhatia (wk), Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Amelia Kerr, Pooja Vastrakar, Issy Wong/Heather Graham, Amanjot Kaur, Humaira Kazi, Jintimani Kalita, Saika Ishaque
