With the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) scheduled to begin from March 4, the Mumbai Indians have announced Harmanpreet Kaur as their captain for the inaugural season of the tournament.
Kaur’s captaincy had led the Indian team to greater heights, and Mumbai Indians will hope that she can have a similar impact when the WPL gets underway. The 33-year-old has amassed 3058 runs in 151 T20I matches and is one of the best players in world cricket. She was brought in by the MI franchise for INR 1.8 crore and was the third-most expensive player for their side.
Mumbai Indians will be playing the first match of their tournament against Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Gujarat on March 4. It will be interesting to see how MI will line up against Gujarat, as they have a plethora of talent in their squad, including the likes of Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews, and Amelia Kerr amongst others.
