After winning the first two matches comprehensively, Delhi Capitals were blown away by Mumbai Indians in their third match of the Women’s Premier League as they got bundled out for just 105 batting first. In reply, Mumbai batters wasted no time in chasing down the target as they reached home with five overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.

Capitals will be up against Gujarat Giants in their next match at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, March 11. The Meg Lanning-leg side will look to put their loss against Mumbai behind them and get back on the winning track against Giants. Delhi will look to learn from their mistakes of the previous game and will have to re-think a bit about their playing XI for their next encounter.

Here is Delhi Capitals’ predicted XI for the match against Gujarat Giants:

Openers: Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning (c)

Shafali Verma got her campaign off to a great start with her knock of 84 off 45 balls in the opening game. However, she couldn’t replicate her performances going forward as she was dismissed for 17 and 2 in the next two matches. Delhi desperately needs Verma to fire in the upcoming matches to recover from the comprehensive loss against Mumbai.

Meg Lanning has been in stupendous form with the bat as she’s the leading run scorer in the tournament with 185 runs to her name. She was the lone warrior against Mumbai as she scored 43 off 41 balls. The Delhi skipper will look to continue her good form and give a flying start to her side against Gujarat.

Middle Order:  Jemimah Rodrigues, Alice Capsey, Taniya Bhatia (wk)

Rodrigues has looked in good touch in the tournament so far having played brilliant cameos of 22(15) and 34(22). She looked in good touch against Mumbai as well scoring 25 off 18 balls, however, couldn’t continue her innings as she got cleaned up by Saika Ishaque.

Capsey failed to fire with the bat scoring just 6, however, she picked up 1 wicket in the three overs she bowled. Given her ability to fire, the team will back her to do well in the upcoming game.

Taniya Bhatia got her first opportunity with the bat in the last game, however, she couldn’t capitalise on that getting dismissed for just 4 off 9 balls. She has done a good job donning the wicketkeeping gloves so far.

All-rounders: Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey

Marizanne Kapp did complete justice to her role as an all rounder in the first two matches. She played a blistering knock of 39 runs off 17 balls in the first match and followed it up with a cameo of 16 off 12 balls in the second game while also picking up 1/29 in four overs.

In her first batting opportunity of the tournament, Shikha Pandey scored 4* off 8 balls and gave away 28 runs in 3 overs. But given her experience in the game, she will be backed by the side to do well.

Bowlers: Jess Jonassen, Minnu Mani, Radha Yadav, Tara Norris

After her breathtaking all-round performance in the second game, Jonassen failed to leave an impact with both bat and ball against Mumbai. She will look to make amends for her low returns and make another vital contribution to her team’s victory against Giants.

Minnu Mani was brought into the side in place of Arundhati Reddy in the third game, who had failed to impress in the two matches. Like her team, Manni also had a forgettable game as she got dismissed for a duck.

Radha Yadav once again proved to be costly against Mumbai giving away 12 runs in the over she bowled and with the bat, she ended up scoring 10 off 9 balls.

After giving away 25 runs in two overs in the second game against UP Warriorz, Tara Norris made a good comeback against Mumbai picking up 1 wicket in the only over she bowled and gave away four runs. However, she couldn’t save her team from a loss.

Predicted Playing XI: Meg Lanning (c), Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Jemimah Rodrigues, Alice Capsey, Jess Jonassen, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Minnu Mani, Shikha Pandey, Radha Yadav, Tara Norris
