New Zealand Women reached the finals of the T20 World Cup in 2009 and 2010. But the White Ferns were beaten by England and Australia respectively. They managed to beat the West Indies in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 and reached the finals of the event to face South Africa. After being invited to bat first on the night of October 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, they posted a defendable total of 158 runs.
But South Africa’s middle order crumbled after a good start from Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits. Rosemary Mair and Amelia Kerr dazzled with three wickets each and the Proteas fell 32 runs short as New Zealand Women lifted their maiden T20 title. Amelia Kerr was adjudged Player of the Match for her impeccable performance with the ball and 43 off 38 with the bat.
