Pakistan women’s cricket team have not received daily allowances during their ongoing preparatory camp in Multan, which commenced on September 01, ahead of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The players who are training at the camp ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming three T20Is against South Africa next week will receive allowances once the series gets underway. It is important to note that the decision marks a revamp in policy from how the allowance structure was constructed at previous camps, and is also different to how it is managed for the men’s national team.

According to an ESPNcricinfo report, previously, the women’s team received modest daily allowances at training camps. This time, however, the PCB is providing accommodation along with the three meals to the members at the camp; at previous camps, three daily meals were not provided. In the report, a PCB official revealed that the board’s policy dictated that if three meals a day and hotel accommodation were made available, no daily allowances over and above that would be given.

This policy remains the same for the men’s side, too, but is rarely, if ever, put into practice. During the most recent men’s training camp, held ahead of Shan Masood-led Pakistan’s home Test series versus Bangladesh, the players were provided daily allowances over and above the accommodation and any food offered. However, the aforementioned three free full meals were not made available for free, with the allowances being considered as compensation in place of that. In the previous camps held over the years, the men’s team has almost always been awarded daily allowances, often with up to two meals freely available.

The report also suggests that the tweak in policy has not been received well by the women cricketers, with some being of the opinion that staying away from home for a camp deserves more than just getting the basic necessities like lodging and food. There is hope that the terms will improve in the near future, with the Women in Green set to play the T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE next month.

South Africa arrive in Pakistan for T20I series

The South African women’s cricket team landed in Pakistan on Friday, September 13, to play the three-match series which is going to serve as a great dress rehearsal ahead of the T20 World Cup.

The three matches will take place at the Multan Cricket Stadium on September 16, 18, and 20, respectively. After losing in the semi-finals of the Women’s Asia Cup in July, Nida Dar and Co. will look to come back strongly. Meanwhile, the Proteas are coming into this series on the back of a 1-1 T20I series draw against India in July.
