The most sought-after game at the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 nears as India prepares themselves to cross swords against Australia in Match No. 18 on Sunday, October 13. The all-important match will be hosted at the iconic venue of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

Australians have already qualified for the semi-finals and became the first team from Group A to advance to the later stages. Having won all their matches so far, the Alyssa Healy-led side will be high on confidence to grab yet another win against the Indians. However, Harmanpreet Kaur’s women will be equally determined to seal a spot in the semis with a win, although the Aussie challenge is a daunting one.

Pitch Report

The 22-yard deck at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium is popular for its slow nature, and as a result, is likely to favour the bowlers. However, bowling under lights may lead to certain difficulties for the bowlers, and the smaller boundary dimensions on either side mean there would be a lot on offer for the batters as well. The captain winning the toss may choose to bat first at Sharjah.

Head-to-Head Records

The Women in Blue have met the Aussies a total of 34 times in WT20Is ahead of their upcoming fixture. India hasn’t managed to come close to the Aussies in terms of wins, however, in recent years, they have managed to beat them a few times to gain some confidence. India have won just eight matches against Australia compared to the 25 matches won by the latter.

Probable Predicted XI

India Women

To keep their winning combination untouched, the Indian team is expected to make no changes from their previous encounter, where they convincingly gained a thumping win over Sri Lanka. Harmanpreet Kaur had an injury scare but was seen playing a captain’s knock to grant India a much-needed win. However, Pooja Vastrakar coming in after recovering from her injury may force Sajana Sajeevan to vacate the spot.

Predicted XI: Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Richa Ghosh (WK), Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Asha Sobhana, Shreyanka Patil, Arundhanti Reddy, and Renuka Singh Thakur.

Australia Women

The Alyssa Healy-led side has been the team to beat in the tournament so far. Their unassailable campaign at the ongoing event means that the Australian side will have the luxury to experiment with their playing combination to give the untried players some match time. Pacer Tayla Vlaeminck had to leave the field against Pakistan after an unfortunate landing on the shoulder on the turf, and as a result, she may get replaced by speedster Darcie Brown.

Predicted XI: Alyssa Healy (C & WK), Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Georgia Wareham, Annabel Sutherland, Sophie Molineux, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown.
