The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is well underway and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team India has witnessed a shaky start to their campaign so far. The Women in Blue have played two games in the tournament, winning and losing one each.
With two points to their name, India sits in fourth place in the standings. The team started its campaign with a 58-run defeat to New Zealand and the massive loss has made the qualification situation quite tricky. India did weill to recover, howeverr, as after the loss in their campaign opener, they followed it up with a six-wicket win against arch-rivals Pakistan.
However, the win against Pakistan has not been enough to offset the loss and the net-run-rate dent from the first game, as it reads -1.217 after two games. The Women in Blue have the second-worst net run rate in their group, only above Sri Lanka, who are yet to win a game in the tournament.
Despite the drawbacks, it is still possible for India to make it into the semis of the competition. However, in addition to playing well, they will need to have some luck on their side as winning their remaining two games might not be enough. They will play against Sri Lanka on October 9 before meeting the mighty Australians on October 13 in the final group-stage game.

The easiest path into the semis for India would be to win both games and hope that New Zealand and Pakistan lose at least one of their two remaining matches. In another case, they can also make it into the knockouts with six points, if Australia lose both of their remaining games.
With the Women’s T20 World Cup tightening up, the sides will hope to put in their best performances in the upcoming few matches. India women will also hope for some luck on their side as well.
