Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a spin-dominated squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 starting from 03 October 2024. The tournament, originally slated to be held in Bangladesh, has been relocated to the United Arab Emirates due to political considerations.

The 15-member squad led by captain Nigar Sultana Joty, has a unique spin attack featuring both left and right-arm options, as well as off-break and leg-break specialists. Key spinners in the lineup include Nahida Akter, Shorna Akter, Rabeya, Sultana Khatun, and Fahima Khatun, forming the backbone of Bangladesh’s bowling strategy.

The squad also includes a contingent of pace bowlers. Young talent Marufa Akter partners up with veterans like, Jahanara Alam, Mst. Ritu Moni, and Sobhana Mostary to conclude the bowling attack.

Bangladesh to play tournament opener against Scotland

Bangladesh is placed in Group B of the tournament, alongside England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. The Bengal Tigresses will kick off their campaign in the tournament opener against Scotland on October 3 in Sharjah, followed by a challenging match against England on October 5 at the same venue.

The team’s best performance in the Women’s T20 World Cup came in 2014 when they secured victories against Ireland and Sri Lanka. With this carefully selected squad, Bangladesh will build on past successes and make a significant impact in the 2024 edition.

The relocation of the tournament to the UAE has both challenges and opportunities for the side. While they miss out on the home advantage, the spin-friendly conditions in the UAE could play to their strengths.
