Following a terrific series in the recently concluded Ashes 2023, veteran pacer Stuart Broad announced his retirement from professional cricket. Representing England in 167 Test matches, the 37-year-old picked up 604 wickets and hence, earned the reputation of being one of the greatest ever to grace the game. Meanwhile, his decision to retire came as a shock to many of his teammates and one such cricketer, Ollie Robinson has opened up saying that he will miss having Broad around in the dressing room.

The 29-year-old opened up about the relationship he shares with the legendary cricketer and mentioned that whenever he is in any problem, be it professional or personal he runs straight to him and James Anderson. He added saying that the former cricketer has tremendous positive energy and cares about things a lot and that, he will miss Broad’s dry, witty humour in the England camp.

“I’m very close to him (Stuart Broad). Any problems that I have, I go straight to him and I go straight to Jimmy. They’re the two that I will always go back to – cricket-related, something from my personal life, anything. And they’re very good at dealing with it. Broady is someone that you might not see as the most emotional character, but you know that he cares about you because of the effort he puts in.

“He has an amazing positive energy. The thing that I love most about him is his dry, witty humour. He’s very quick. Anytime a batter comes in from being sledged or anything like that, he is very quick to jump on the wit. He’s just so funny to be around,” Robinson wrote in his column in Wisden.

Meanwhile, Anderson recently revealed that Broad wanted to retire the last summer itself but skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum convinced him otherwise. He has been sensational in the past year and recently touched a rare feat by hitting a six on his last ball as a batter and picking a wicket on his last ball as a bowler.
