The West Indies and South Africa continued their ongoing first Test with yet another eventful day. Day 4 of the Test began with the West Indies batting on a score of 145/4. The Proteas had begun the clash by batting first, and amassing 357 runs in the first innings.

Aiming to minimise their trail, the Windies were unable to put in the required performance with the bat which was expected from them. Jason Holder and Kavem Hodge began the day and managed to score 36 and 25. However, after their knocks, the rest of the batting order could not add much. Jomel Warrican went unbeaten on a score of 35 runs, whereas Joshua Da Silva and Kemar Roach departed for scores of one and eight runs, respectively.

South Africa’s bowling attack did a fantastic job of limiting the Windies in the first innings, the hosts were bundled out for a score of 233 runs, falling short of South Africa’s total with the bat.  For the Proteas, Keshav Maharaj was the highest wicket-taker, with four to his name. Kagiso Rabada took three while Lungi Ngidi and Aiden Markram got one each.

South Africa came out to bat in the second innings and batted for five overs before the day ended. The visitors scored 30 runs, with Tony de Zorzi *14*) and Aiden Markram (9*) sanding at the crease. With the final day of the Test match approaching, South Africa leads the West Indies by 154 runs, and they will hope to put in a good showing with the bat and give ample time to the Windies to attempt a run chase in hopes of getting a result from the game.
