Young India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has enjoyed an outstanding West Indies tour. Kishan was instrumental for the Men in Blue, scoring fifties in all three ODIs against the West Indies and finished the series with a total of 184 runs.

The wicketkeeper’s half-century in the third and final ODI contested at the Brain Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad saw him join an elite group that has the likes MS Dhoni, Dilip Vengsarkar and Mohammed Azharuddin among others. The 25-year-old is the most recent Indian batter to score half-centuries in all three bilateral ODIs.

During a stumping appeal in the final ODI, Kishan had a humorous exchange with former India opener Aakash Chopra, who was commentating. Chopra made a reference to the renowned Indian skipper, Dhoni, and the youngster gave a terrific response.

“It’s very rare that you review the stumping and run out dismissal. So far, I am seeing the feet on the ground. You can come from Ranchi, but your name is not MS Dhoni,” Chopra said on-air.

Ha, fir thik hai. (Then it’s okay),” Kishan was heard saying in the stump mic.

“How sweet Ishan. We love you,” the former cricketer replied.

Ishan Kishan not happy with the finishing he gave

Kishan, who was named the Player of the Series, stated that he was not happy with his finishing in the three-game ODI series. The 25-year-old also opened up about his senior’s reaction as he failed to score a big score.

“Not so happy with the finishing that I gave. I was supposed to score big after being set. That’s what my seniors told me, I should’ve stayed in and scored big. That’s what I’ll try next time, I’ll get set in the middle and score big,” Kishan said after the match.

He, meanwhile, praised fellow opener Shubman Gill, describing him as a ‘tremendous player.’ Kishan and Gill registered the highest opening partnership by an Indian pair in the West Indies, putting up 143 runs in the final ODI.

“He’s a tremendous player, I’ve seen how he middles the ball. Seeing him hitting it out of the middle gives me a lot of confidence as well.” said Kishan.
