Why Virat Kohli blocked Glenn Maxwell on Instagram in 2021? (Source – IPL/BCCI)
For the layman as well as the millions of cricket buffs worldwide, ace India batter, Virat Kohli, and Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell would appear to have forged a robust bond over the years. This comes particularly after Maxwell was secured by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for a sum of INR 14.25 crore ahead of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, in a recent discussion, Maxwell recounted an intriguing tale pertaining to his initial conversations with the then-RCB skipper during the pre-IPL training sessions as well as his not being able to find his account on Instagram in a bid to follow Kohli on the social media platform.
“When I knew that I was going to RCB, Virat was the first guy to message me and welcome me to the team. When I turned up for the pre-IPL training camp, we obviously got chatting and spent a fair bit of time training together as you do. So I go to his social media, to follow him. Didn’t even think about it before that. Never really crossed my mind,” said Maxwell in a conversation with LiSTNR Sport.
“I was like ‘I can’t find him.’ I’m sure he’s on social media somewhere, so I didn’t think anything of it. Not really that maybe he wasn’t savvy with Instagram. Didn’t really understand why he wasn’t coming up and then someone mentioned that he might have blocked me. That is the only way you’re not able to find him. I was like surely not,” he further added.

It was when you mocked me during that Test match: Kohli
Furthermore, Glenn Maxwell recalled that it was only after addressing the issue with Virat Kohli that he found out that the latter had indeed blocked him on Instagram due to an incident dating way back to 2017. For the unversed, it was the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Test series between Australia and India, which saw Kohli injuring his right shoulder during a valiant dive. Notably, Kohli had made an attempt to save the ball from racing to the boundary.

That injury rendered him out of action for almost two days. Maxwell, who later chased down the ball on a similar part of the ground, was seen clutching his right shoulder in a bid to take a jibe at the then-Test captain of India.
“Then I went and asked him, ‘have you blocked me on Instagram’? And he was like, ‘yeah probably. It was when you mocked me during that Test match. I think I got the s**t and decided to block you. I was like ‘yeah, that’s fair enough’. So yeah, he ended up unblocking me, and we became great friends after that,” Maxwell concluded.
