India took on Bangladesh in Match 47 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 22. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. While India fielded the same team, Bangladesh entered the fray with one significant change as they brought in Jaker Ali at the expense of Taskin Ahmed. It is worth noting that India have won their first game of the Super 8 stage against Afghanistan, whereas, Bangladesh succumbed to Australia.
Taskin was underutilized by Bangladesh in the previous game and the pacer bowled only eight deliveries. He was expensive in his conceding a whopping 22 runs at an economy rate of 16.50 with no wicket to his name. With the inclusion of wicket-keeper batter, Jaker Ali, the Tigers are aiming to strengthen their batting arsenal while chasing as highlighted by Najmul Hossain Shanto’s willingness to restrict India to a small total.
“We would like to bowl first, we would like to restrict them to a small total and that is the plan. We know the conditions here and also about the wind factor. Looks a good wicket. 150-160 will be a good score I reckon. We have one change. Taskin is not playing,” said Shanto at the toss.
“We wanted to bat and that’s what we got. Looks like a good wicket and depends on how much the sun is beating down and making the pitch slow. Important to assess the conditions quickly. We are playing the same team. Important to stay in the present and not worry about other things,” said Rohit at the toss.
