Left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh made headlines after being acquired by the joint-most successful franchise Chennai Super Kings for INR 2.2 crore in the ongoing IPL 2025 mega-auction in Jeddah.

Standing tall at 6’3″, Gurjapneet brings a unique left-arm pace option to the team’s bowling attack. Born in Ludhiana, Punjab, and raised in Ambala, Haryana, Gurjapneet moved to Chennai at the age of 17. The geographical change would make him enter the domestic cricket scene whoch was never expected by the tall speedster.

Gurjapneet’s breakthrough came during his stunning Ranji Trophy debut against Saurashtra, where he delivered a brilliant performance, claiming six wickets for just 22 runs, the best figure by a Tamil Nadu fast bowler at home since the 2005-06 season.

A lower back injury temporarily halted his progress, forcing him to undergo surgery and spend a significant part of 2022 on the sidelines. However, Gurjapneet’s mental strength saw him making a strong comeback, gradually rebuilding his bowling workload through league cricket, particularly in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

CSK had been closely observing Gurjapneet’s potential. Initially serving as a net bowler for the franchise, he caught the attention of coaches and players alike. His ability to swing the new ball and bowl effectively during death overs made him an attractive prospect.

Among his impressive moments, Gurjapneet notably dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara for a duck during his memorable Ranji Trophy debut. He has also bowled to star players like Virat Kohli during net sessions. With T Natarajan currently injured, Gurjapneet has strengthened Tamil Nadu’s Ranji and white-ball teams.
