NEPAL OMAN

The 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is set to take place from 4 June to 30 June 2024, hosted by the West Indies and the United States. This tournament will be the 9th edition of the T20 World Cup.

A total of 20 teams will participate in the competition. So far, 18 teams have already qualified for the tournament, namely Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, West Indies, USA, PNG, Canada, Nepal, and Oman.

This edition of the tournament is expected to be a big occasion, as it will be the first time matches are played on American soil, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of cricket.

In November 2021, the ICC made an announcement, revealing that the West Indies and the United States would jointly host the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. This decision came after Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket successfully bid for the hosting rights following two years of meticulous planning. The ICC sees this strategic partnership as a way to thrust the USA into the global cricketing spotlight.

Nepal and Oman qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

Recently, Nepal and Oman emerged as victors in the Asia region qualifiers, securing their places in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup.

Oman’s victory was particularly impressive, as they dominated Bahrain, winning by ten wickets. Aqib Ilyas played a crucial role, taking four wickets for just ten runs and stifling Bahrain’s batting prowess. Openers Kashyap Prajapati and Pratik Athavale then efficiently chased down the target in under six overs.

Nepal faced a tough challenge from the UAE in their semi-final but managed to emerge victorious by eight wickets. Spinners Kushal Malla and Sandeep Lamichhane bowled economical spells, limiting the UAE to a score of 134 for 9. Aasif Sheikh’s unbeaten innings of 63 sealed the win for Nepal, securing their place in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

With Nepal and Oman’s qualification, a total of 18 teams have now secured their positions in the tournament. The remaining two spots will be determined in the Africa qualifier, which is set to conclude at the end of the month.
