Be it the men’s team or women’s, the Indian team has failed to win a single ICC (Internationational Cricket Council) trophy in the recent past. Consistency has been a major issue as despite having some big names in the ranks, results have never gone in favour of India. When it comes to the men’s team, the side lost to Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final after a poor all-round performance, while in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, it’s the batters who failed to step up. Things didn’t change ever since, as the top players often seem to fumble in decisive matches.

The women’s team too suffered the same fate and talking about the same, former India international Anjum Chopra mentioned one should not look at the failure at once but should analyse it one by one. She also added that the trophy cabinet looks pretty dry at the moment and both sets of teams will have to improve immediately in order to win some major trophies in the coming times.

“I would like to see everything in isolation and not club it in. We are talking about the ICC tournaments and won’t include everything and understand how and when we falter. At the end of the day, it’s all about scoring runs and taking wickets. Whoever does it better, ends up winning. It doesn’t really matter what colour jersey you are wearing,” Chopra stated.

Batting has not been able to be making an impact or we are unable to get the required breakthroughs: Chopra

Furthermore, discussing constant failures in the knockout stages of the major ICC events, Anjum Chopra pointed out two major faults. She believes Indian teams are unable to get breakthroughs in crucial moments of the game. Moreover, the batting has remained inconsistent, which has led to failures in major tournaments for the Indian team.

“Where are we, as a team, faltering, it’s been very consistent in Test matches of course the batting has not been able to be making an impact or we are unable to get the required breakthroughs. We saw that in the T20 World Cup and the WTC final as well. So, it’s different in every contest. But at the end of the day, I do agree that when we look back at the cabinet of the ICC tournaments, they are very far and few. We need to do a lot of things right, both men’s and women’s teams and pretty quickly to get that habit of winning ICC trophies,” Chopra said while talking to News18.

Notably, the men’s team will next play Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, followed by the World Cup at home while the women’s team will play the 50-overs World Cup in 2025.
