Indian bowling all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, recently appeared on a show hosted by renowned cricket journalist, Vimal Kumar.

Ashwin, gearing up for the 10 Tests lined up for the Indian team, expressed his gratitude to former greats of Indian cricket, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, and attributed his success to the two spinners.

Mai lucky hu (I am lucky). What (legacy) Anil bhai and Harbhajan left, I have learnt from that. Whatever I am
doing today is because of them. What I am doing is part of the journey,” stated a philosophical Ashwin while conversing with Vimal, the video of which is posted on Vimal’s official YouTube channel.

Furthermore, he chuckled at the persistent conversations that the general public made about them earning substantial chunks of money in the Indian Premier League, with Ashwin finding it ironic how people failed to factor in inflation, which in turn would affect future earnings.

“When people say they (cricketers) are making so much in the IPL, this and that, mai soch kar hasta hu (I laugh
thinking about it). If the IPL happens in 2040, will the salary be the same as it is today? The world will stride forward,” mentioned Ashwin.

It is an evolution and people will be better: Ashwin

Continuing his discussion about the constantly changing nature of time, Ashwin talked about the same concept that he applied to player salaries to his own Test record. He sounded confident regarding the fact of a better cricketer being produced in the future than him in terms of surpassing the tally of wickets he has managed in the longest format of the game.

“I will leave somewhere, and someone else will move forward. It’s like a 400 m relay race, someone will run
100 m and someone else another 100 m. It is an evolution and people will be better. I am 100%
sure that someone better or even more amazing than me will come,” added Ashwin.

Ashwin currently ranks second on the list for all-rounders on the ICC’s chart in the men’s category and will be keen on starting off the flurry of Tests with a bang during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh commencing in a few weeks.
