West Indies hand Alzarri Joseph two-match ban for controversial on-field behaviour

West Indies hand Alzarri Joseph two-match ban for controversial on-field behaviour

West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph stormed out of the pitch in the third ODI against England in Barbados. Notably, in the fifth over of the game, captain Shai Hope didn’t listen to Joseph’s plans and set the field as per his desire. The pacer ended up losing his calm and bowled a bouncer which dismissed Jordan Cox. However, he chose not to celebrate and was staring at the captain. Interestingly, he completed the over and chose to leave the ground.

Joseph returned to the field after an over and West Indies won the game by eight wickets but the team management was extremely unhappy with the behaviour of the 27-year-old. After the game, head coach Daren Sammy stated that he would not accept such behavior and it resulted in Joseph getting banned for two games.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe confirmed the development as the statement read that Joseph’s behavior did not align with the core values of the team.

“Alzarri’s behavior did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds. Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged,” Bascombe said as quoted by ICC.

I have personally apologized to captain Shai Hope: Joseph

Joseph also said to have apologized to Hope after the game. The pacer explained that his passion got the better of him and also extended his apologies to the teammates, management and the fans.

“I recognize that my passion got the best of me. I have personally apologized to Captain Shai Hope and my teammates and management. I also extend my sincerest apologies to the West Indies fans – I understand that even a brief lapse in judgment can have a far-reaching impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused,” Joseph said.

Notably, West Indies sealed the ODI series 2-1 and will next host England for a five-match T20I series, starting November 9.
