The West Indies and Bangladesh announced their squads for the upcoming three-match ODI series, which will be played at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts on December 8, 10, and 12, respectively. The two teams are currently competing in the second and final Test match in Kingston, Jamaica.
The experienced Shai Hope will continue to lead the side in the 50-over format, while Brandon King has been named as his deputy. There are a couple of changes from the squad that beat England 2-1 in the three-match ODI series last month. Seam-bowling all-rounder Justin Greaves and wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo have replaced Hayden Walsh Jnr and Jewel Andrew, respectively.
“During this period, Andrew will join a cohort of emerging regional batters in India to attend a batting camp at the Chennai Academy, concentrating on batting in spinning conditions,” Cricket West Indies (CWI) said in a statement.
Greaves has been rewarded for his splendid performances in the Super50 competition, where he registered a record three consecutive List A centuries. He followed it up with a maiden Test century against Bangladesh last month. Meanwhile, Jangoo also earns a call-up on the back of a prolific Super50 season, where he topped the scoring chart with 446 runs in seven innings at a staggering average of 89.20.
“We continue to build towards the main target of the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup where we are looking to broaden the pool of players even with the short-term objectives of winning series, especially at home and building momentum on the recent win against England,” head coach Daren Sammy told CWI.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz to lead Bangladesh in Najmul Hossain Shanto’s absence
After leading the side in the Test series, Mehidy Hasan Miraz will take up the captaincy role in the ODIs as well. Regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is recuperating after suffering a groin injury. Shakib Al Hasan, who has not played for Bangladesh since the Test series in India, continues to miss out, with BCB president Faruque Ahmed mentioning that the senior all-rounder was not “in a mental state to play for the country”.

Talented middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy also misses out due to a groin strain which he picked up while playing football recently. The experienced Mushfiqur Rahim also misses out as he continues his recovery from a finger injury. Meanwhile, ace speedster Mustafizur Rahman has opted to skip the series citing personal reasons. Left-handed opener Zakir Hasan, meanwhile, has been dropped. Litton Das, who missed the ODIs against Afghanistan in November, makes a comeback, while Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Hasan Mahmud and Tanzim Hasan Sakib have also been included.
