The Champions Trophy is set to be played after an eight-year hiatus. With the 2025 tournament round the corner, several players would be anticipated to come good with their performances in the marquee tournament. One of them is Rohit Sharma. The seasoned Indian veteran has endured a massive slump in batting form of late, and is set to be one of the players who will attract a lot of eyeballs.
Former Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson, was quite confident that Rohit would unleash his 2023 World Cup avatar in the forthcoming ICC tournament. He also spoke on the relative ease with which he has adapted to ODI cricket.
“We’ll see that again in the Champions Trophy. Rohit, like we saw in the one-day World Cup (2023), when he was at his very best, he was taking on the game. It’s more difficult to be able to do that in Test cricket. He hasn’t been able to find that balance here in Australia. But when he goes out for the batting in one-days, he lets loose. That’s when we see the very best of Rohit Sharma,” Watson told Star Sports.

I’m sure he’ll let the handbrake off: Shane Watson
The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that he would be “very surprised” if Rohit doesn’t amps up his performances in the Champions Trophy.
“So, I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t perform really well in the Champions Trophy, knowing that he probably doesn’t have a lot of time left, whatever that is, but a lot of time left in international cricket. So I’m sure he’ll let the handbrake off,” added Watson.
Notably, Rohit has played the 2013 and 2017 editions of the tournament and has registered 491 runs in the 10 innings. The white-ball tournament might just turn out to be what Rohit needed to get back his confidence and batting mojo back. India would be aiming to come good as a unit and win another ICC title within a year’s time period after their triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024.
